When you buy ginger ale from the store, you’ll be surprised to learn that most times, the drink contains hardly – if any – ginger in it. It’s just a sugary sweet drink that may have a tint of ginger flavoring but does not have the actual benefits of ginger.
- 2 cups Ginger root – freshly slices
- Sparkling water or club soda
- 4 cups Water
- 2 Tbsp Lemon Juice – freshly squeezed
- 2 Tbsp Honey
Take a medium sized vessel and heat the water on a high setting on your stove. Throw in the freshly sliced ginger pieces so that the juices and essential flavoring can be absorbed into the water. Let the water come to a boil and then reduce the heat to a medium-low setting and leave it for an hour after covering the vessel. After an hour is up, remove the cover and leave it for half an hour. Turn off the stove and strain the solution so that the ginger is removed.
Add the honey and lemon and stir the solution. This becomes ginger syrup once it cools down and can be stored for a while. To make ginger ale, add some ice in a glass, add 1/4th cup of ginger syrup and pour in the sparkling water until the glass is full. There you have it, homemade ginger ale that is healthier and tastier than any other brand.
