Miracle Sunburn Soother

Summer is here and we are all spending countless hours outside, under the sun, enjoying the long days and warm nights. Along with that inevitably comes a sunburn! Whether your entire family gets sunburned all at once or you are the lucky one with extra red shoulders, relief is necessary to seek out after bathing the skin.

Today I’m sharing my “Miracle” Sunburn Soother that helps nourish, calm, cool, and protect sunburned skin. It smells wonderful, is so simple to make, and helps prevent peeling when used regularly.

Miracle Sunburn Soother

For this DIY after sun cream, you will need:

  • Coconut Oil
  • After Sun Aloe Gel
  • Shea Butter
  • Jojoba Oil – optional

To make your own Miracle Sunburn Soother, combine:

  • 1 Tablespoon of After Sun Aloe Gel
  • 1 Teaspoon of Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Shea Butter
  • 3 drops of Jojoba Oil (optional but wonderful)

Depending on the weather, shea butter and coconut oil are usually in a solid form. If it’s extremely hot (and let’s face it, during the summer it can be) then place both ingredients in the refrigerator until they are a little bit more solid. Simply add the 4 ingredients together and store in a little container if you have extra. The warmer the weather, the creamier it will be. You could also warm it up for a couple of seconds in the microwave if they aren’t blending like they should.

Apply the Sunburn Soother to dry clean skin. Let it absorb before putting too many layers of clothing over it, if possible. After a couple days of healing, try placing the sunburn soother in the refrigerator before using it! It will cause the cream to harden a bit, but feels SO refreshing on sun-kissed skin!

The Jojoba Oil is optional because the Sunburn Soother will work just as well without it and Jojoba oil is a bit harder to find. However, if you are like me and always have some on hand because it is so wonderful for beauty purposes, then you’ll love the extra layer of moisutrized protection that the jojoba oil creates. While it appears oily, it’s actually a wax that helps to seal and protect skin.

Coconut oil is also very moisturizing and healing while shea butter is commonly used for dry, chapped, or cracked skin. When combined with Aloe, your burn will feel a little better and your skin will have a harder time peeling (because you’ll be keeping it so moisturized!).

Repeat the application of DIY Miracle Sunburn Soother for however long it takes. If your sunburn is extremely bad, you might want to go to your doctor, or at least wait a day before applying DIY Miracle Sunburn Soother.

I’m not condoning sun burns, I’m just saying that growing up in Orange County California and now raising 2 of my own children here, sunburns happen. It doesn’t make us bad people. We learn and continue to have fun enjoying life!
